Welcome to my blog

 Hey!

My name is Safa Chowdhury. I was born in Texas and live in Tampa now. My major is in health sciences. I have a combined concentration in biological sciences and health IT. I have experience working in retail and at a science museum. Something I like to do is watch shows and movies with my family. It's a fun way for all of us to relax and spend time with each other. My siblings and I have recently watched Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Together, and it's such a fun show. I also like to try out different creative hobbies.  I have the attendance to bounce around between different activities often, but I've picked up a few different skills in cooking, drawing, creating props, and stop motion animation. I usually like to do these with my siblings as well. An intresting fact about me is that I can't swim, unfortunately. But several of my friends have been teaching me, and I can proudly say that at the very least, I won't drown... not immediately anyways.

One of my favorite social media platforms is YouTube. I've grown up with it so there is a lot of sentimental attachment, but even though I've grown out of certain types of content, I've grown into others. I use it for everything from entertainment purposes to research tools. One of the things I like about YouTube is that there is no restriction on the length of a video. Sometimes with really short videos, although they can be much more immediately engaging, I feel like the video is incomplete. Having to have multiple parts to watch a full story or just rush through content in a short time frame can be ungratifying, so I like when creators are able to control how long they need to best deliver their content. However, there are many policies created by YouTube changing the platform for the worst, and it's unfortunate as more and more creators are being hurt by these changes, and their content is also suffering as a result. It's sad for me to see how much the platform is degrading over time, but as of now, it still allows me to use it how I like for the most part.

I don't have much experience with blogs. I usually use them if I'm following instructions to make something.  I've only had one blog before for another course. From what I know, blogs are a great way to share your passions with others. In my experience, blogs about popular subjects typically all begin to resemble each other after enough of them are created. This makes sense as there is only so much you can really say or share on the same topic. However, I believe blogs are a great way for people to interact with others with similar passions and they can be a great way to find and be part of an online community. I like that blogs offer a way to share a process or journey with others. It can make people feel connected and understood or even inspire interest in new topics. The thing that I dislike about blogs is how information is sometimes presented or how certain people take the information. There are some blogs that aid in the spread of misinformation, and they may present their opinions as facts. Some people will also use blogs as complete and credible source. Not to say that blogs cannot be credible or contain credible information, but a blog in itself is not typically a holistically reliable source.

  1. Hi Safa,
Where in TX were you born? My Dad and Step-mom live in Corpus Christi. I like that you mentioned misinformation and blogging. It is a problem and this problem isn't confined to just blogs. We're going to explore this further later in the semester.
